Diane Myers has been raising and training Australian Kelpies for over 30 years. Her experience with the breed has given her invaluable knowledge in both training as well as breed characteristics, promoting solid genetics, and remarkable pedigrees. She has learned from and worked alongside some of the most renowned Kelpie Cattle Dog trainers in the country. In her experience with many herding breeds she fell in love with the Kelpie breed's tenacity, spirit, and work ethics long ago.
Combing efforts and team work of other she organstrated numerous true cattle dog trials over five western states in the late '90's into 2000's using "fresh" cattle working with local ranchers boosting their bottom dollar. Cattle trucked or hauled in for an event are often in a poor disposition; whereas cattle in their own environment are at their best temperment. Priority of stockmenship of "quiet" handling practices on a timed course with cattle not conditioned (run through course prior) set presidence for all trials. Point and time, with "tie-breaker" by the fasted time on the last completed obstacle. Credit to that "fair" rule and approach is given to Connie Simpkins (Pioche, NV) and the Western Cattle Dog Association. |
